Despite Andy Coles’s (Lutine Director) best efforts to instil a level of enthusiasm and nostalgia about us having the Grand Départ from the spiritual home of Lutine, there is no getting away from the fact that last year’s challenge had us starting out from Paris, the city of love, whereas this year it’s Birmingham, the city of…the spaghetti junction. Nevertheless, I’m very much raring to go for this year’s #LutineRide4Life and the 128 miles which it brings…
I read an article recently on Facebook about first-time fathers gaining around 1st 5lbs in the year after becoming a dad. We all know that the first reading on the scales is always wrong, but unfortunately, after the 4th time of off-ing and on-ing I had to accept the legitimacy of what I had read. I had put on in excess of 1lb per week in the 12 weeks of having my son, Gus, which is probably only one better than Chris Froome’s preparation for this year’s Tour De France.
So here I am, more than a stone overweight (from last year’s Paris2London) with moderate to high sleep deprivation and a week to go to the event. What could possibly go wrong…?
For anyone that would like to donate to our cause, then you can do so by clicking the link on our donation page or text ‘RIDE’ to 70660 to donate £5 to Mind*. I will be setting up a separate fund for the private medical treatment which I will need afterwards! Saying that, Carol Walsh (pictured) is on hand in the support vehicle this year, so hopefully I’ll benefit again from her ‘magic hands’ again.
Wish us luck.
